This mountain-top monastery in the Piemont alps was built shortly
after the year 1000 A.D. Being one of the important sites in Europe
where the archangel Michael is venerated, it is situated on the
mysterious diagonal of St. Michael which straight through Europe,
from Monte Sant'Angelo in Apulia, Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy,
Mount-St.-Michael in Cornwall to Skellig Michael off Ireland's
Kerry coast.
